Best AI Image Generator? I Tested 8 Models With the Same Prompts

I tested 8 popular AI image generators using the same two prompts to see how they compare, which ones surprised me, and which model I’d actually use again.

There are too many AI image generators right now.

Every week there's a new model claiming to be the most realistic, the most creative, the fastest, or the best. And if you've ever tried to actually pick one and use it, you know how overwhelming it gets.

So I kept it simple.

I picked 8 of the most popular AI image models available right now, gave them the same two prompts, and compared the results side by side. No favourites. No editing. No endless regenerating until I got the perfect result.

One prompt tested stylised, artistic visuals. The other tested realistic, cinematic images that could work for thumbnails, blog posts, ads, or social content.

The goal was to see which one actually deserves to be called the best AI image generator for creators?

The 8 Models I Tested

I used two platforms to access these models: Magnific (formerly known as Freepik) and Runway. But this isn't a Magnific vs Runway comparison — it's about the models themselves. The platforms are just how I access the models. You could access them on their own respective sites if you prefer, I just wanted to keep it quick and simple for the sake of this guide.

Some of these you've probably heard of. Some are newer. Together they cover the full range — fast models, realistic models, cinematic models, and creative stylised ones.

How I Tested Them

Same two prompts across all 8 models. Same aspect ratio and settings wherever possible. No retouching or editing the outputs before judging them.

If a model gave me multiple images in one generation, I used the best result from that batch. I didn't keep regenerating until I got something perfect — just the standard output, judged on whether I'd actually use it.

I could have tested ten different prompts, but I wanted this to stay simple and useful. Most creators need one of two things: something eye-catching and stylised, or something realistic and cinematic. So I focused on those two.

Prompt 1: Animation / Stylised Image

The prompt:

"A stylised animated scene of a young creator sitting at a desk in a cosy bedroom studio at night, editing a video on a laptop, colourful LED lights, warm atmosphere, expressive character design, modern animation style, highly detailed, vibrant colours"

This test is about creativity and visual appeal. I wanted to see which models could produce something eye-catching — strong colours, clear character design, and a sense of personality. The kind of image that would work as a thumbnail or social post.
