Anthropic ranked the jobs most affected by AI. The top of the list isn't blue-collar work, it's well-paid desk jobs with graduate degrees attached.
Anthropic has published a report ranking US jobs by AI exposure, and the list flips the usual story about automation on its head. The factory worker is fine. The well-paid office worker with a graduate degree is the one in the firing line.
Most "AI will take your job" forecasts ask only whether AI could do each task in a job. Anthropic's report does something different. It combines that theoretical capability with actual usage data from Claude, the company's chatbot, to track what AI is genuinely being used for in professional settings. The result is a measure called observed exposure: tasks AI is actively performing in work contexts, weighted by how much of the job they cover.
The conclusion: jobs at the top are heavy on screens and light on hands.
